Frequently Asked Questions
Little of questions that we got asked frequently
What is Managed Hosting?
Managed Hosting is a dedicated server that we set up, monitor, maintain, secure and patch for you. We will also install and maintain some Web applications, listed here. We also offer custom support services with Managed Hosting for an hourly rate. Managed Hosting accounts remove your root/system-level access but let you control all other aspects of your server.
Managed Hosting accounts use Parallels Plesk Panel® with one of the following operating systems:
- Windows — Windows® Server 2008
- Linux — CentOS®
How often do you patch applications I install on my Managed Hosting account?
We check for updates to your applications weekly, and then apply the patch to your application.
If you do not want us to patch your applications, please contact customer support.
How can I be notified immediately when a drive on my Linux server fails?
You can configure RAID to notify you immediately when a there is a problem with a drive on your Linux dedicated server.
RAID automatically sends server notifications to our Dedicated Hosting support team. We recommend that you continue to use this configuration and simply add yourself to the notification list. Any other changes to your RAID configuration could result in a hard drive failure going undetected.
How do I install software on my Windows Managed Hosting server?
If you want to install software on your Windows® Managed Hosting account, contact customer support.
How can I back up the data on my server?
All updates regarding patches, software, and bug fixes are the responsibility of the dedicated server administrator. We recommend keeping all services and software up to date with the latest stable version available. Review the documentation provided by your software vendors to ensure that all updates are compatible with your system.
There are many ways you can unintentionally lose data on a server. If you create a server backup plan, you can get some, if not all, of your information back in the event something happens to the data on server.
We offer several backup solutions for server accounts.
Our FTP Backup feature provides reliable, remote back up for the important data on your server. This type of backup is self-managed. We provide you with a secure FTP server and login, and you decide when, what, and how you back up your data.
If you would like to add FTP backup space to your server, see Adding FTP Backup Space to Your Server for more information.
Can I automate backups on my server?
Yes. Your backup is completely self-managed, and you have control over the scripts and programs you run on your dedicated server. To automatically back up your data, you can create a scheduled task in Windows or a cronjob in Linux.
Your server’s control panel might also have a utility to automate backups.
What Software Is Installed on My Server? (Windows)
The following software is installed on your Windows dedicated server after setup:
- Operating System
- Windows 2008 R2 64-bit
- Remote Access Services
- Remote Desktop
- Web Server
- IIS 7
- Control Panel
- Latest version of Parallels Plesk Panel (If included in the preconfigured plan or options that you purchased when you set up your dedicated server, the control panel is installed with support for 30, 100, or unlimited domains.)
What if I've reached my bandwidth limit?
Bandwidth is a measurement of the amount of data allowed to pass between a user’s website and the rest of the Internet. Bandwidth includes all incoming and outgoing data transfer from your server including but not limited to web traffic, ftp usage, all emails passing through our mail server, etc. Each VPS and Dedicated Server plan comes with a certain amount of bandwidth per month, measured in gigabytes (GB).
If you exceed your server’s bandwidth allotment, you will be subjected to bandwidth overage charges.
We suggest taking the proper measures to prevent bandwidth overage.
At any time you can review your server’s bandwidth usage. See Review your bandwidth usage.
If you are expecting an increase in web traffic, you can purchase additional bandwidth as a recurring billing service. See Add bandwidth.
Bandwidth Overage Protection shields you from bandwidth overage charges by automatically suspending your account when its allotted bandwidth is exceeded. Reinstatement occurs at the start of your next billing cycle or when additional bandwidth is purchased. See Adding Bandwidth-Overage Protection to Your Server and Adding Bandwidth-Overage Protection to Your Server.
Do you restrict what content I can keep on my server?
As long as the material or content does not violate the regulations listed in the license agreement for your account, you can upload any type of content that you want on your server.
